Shakira and Piqué announced their split in June. The power couple met in 2010 during the World Cup in South Africa. She was there to perform “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” while he was playing for his native country Spain, that year’s winning team. The two share the same birthday (February 2), but Shakira is 10 years older. Two months after meeting Piqué, Shakira split from Antonio de la Rúa, the son of former Argentine President Fernando de la Rúa and her boyfriend of 10 years, though she reportedly didn’t date the soccer star until the next year.

Now that Shakira and Piqué’s custody battle is escalating, the children are back in Barcelona and living in their father’s bachelor pad. A temporary truce has given him custody for half the month after Shakira took her on a hurricane trip to Miami, Los

The estranged couple could end up fighting over their sizable real estate holdings. As well as a mansion in Miami Beach, they own an eight-bedroom villa in the resort of Cap St Georges, Cyprus, purchased in 2019, and a seven-bedroom house in Barcelona’s exclusive Pedralbes area. Despite her comfortable quarters, Shakira never made herself popular in this town or in Piqué’s inner circle. His friends reportedly call her “La Patrona” (“The Boss”) behind her back.

Shakira’s portfolio also includes Bonds Cay, a private island in the Bahamas that she bought with Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters for $15 million. The business partners planned to transform paradise into an artists’ retreat with luxury hotels, condominiums, galleries and studio spaces, but never developed the land. The 550-hectare island is currently uninhabited.

But tax issues could hurt the singer’s reported net worth of $300 million.

Shakira, born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, allegedly failed to pay $14.7 million in taxes between 2012 and 2014. In addition to jail time, she also faces a $23.5 million fine if found guilty. Sources say Shakira is convinced of her innocence but disappointed by the smear campaign.

“Shakira has always cooperated and obeyed the law,” her public relations rep told The Post, “as an individual and as a taxpayer, and has faithfully followed the advice of PriceWaterhouse Coopers, a renowned and globally recognized tax firm.” Unfortunately, the Spanish tax authorities, which lose every second lawsuit with its taxpayers, continue to violate their rights and pursue another baseless case. Shakira is confident that her innocence will be proven at the end of the trial.”

The singer has already paid 17.5 million dollars to the Spanish tax authorities to settle her commitment.

Sources told the Post Shakira isn’t worried about going to jail.

“It’s something the Spanish tax authorities are known to do to rich people,” said an insider. “It’s more of an annoyance than anything.”

No wonder friends are encouraging her to leave behind the bad memories of Spain and move to the United States.

When in Miami, Shakira keeps a low profile, preferring the company of her family to going to the clubs.

“Shakira is a very family-oriented person,” Martinez described. “She’s not going to a party with some friends. No, they gather at her home for barbecues and family activities. It’s a house built for entertaining. The kids enjoy being here and being with their Abuelos.”

And as her parents age, there’s good reason for the singer to stay close.

Shakira’s father, William Mebarak Chadid, 90, suffered a bad fall earlier this year. Concerned about her father’s condition, Shakira dedicated a post to him on Instagram. “You taught us to get up after every fall and this time we know you will do it again,” she posted on July 9. The ninety-year-old is reportedly on the mend.

Not only do Shakira’s parents live in Miami, but so does her half-brother Antonio. The siblings are very close and “Tonino” is said to be their confidant.

“Everything revolves around their children. Your kids come before your career,” Martinez said. “Your family comes first. Her mother is always with her and so is Tonino.”

The singer’s brother is a real estate agent who shared the listing of their North Bay mansion with Martinez.

Shakira acquired the waterfront property on North Bay Road in 2001 for $3.4 million. The 8,078 square foot contemporary home features 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a hardwood floor gym, recording studio and private dock. Over the years, she has completely renovated the two-story splendor, collaborating with Miami architects Ben Lopez & Associates and interior designer Renata Lessa Bastos on the redesign.

However, right after the birth of her and Piqué’s son Milan in 2013, Shakira tried to offload the property, first listing it for rent for $45,000 a month and then selling it for just under $13 million. In 2015, she upped the price to $13.9 million. In February 2021, she re-listed the home for $15.9 million before demolishing it six months later. Since then the house is no longer available on the market.

In addition to resolving custody issues, Shakira and Pique can fight over a sizeable - and high-quality - real estate portfolio in Spain, Cyprus, the Bahamas and Miami. She is reportedly worth $300 million.

At the height of the pandemic, with prices skyrocketing in Miami as stars like Cindy Crawford, Tom Brady and David and Victoria Beckham all flocked to the Magic City, Shakira was offered “five to six million over asking price” but didn’t. According to Martinez, I don’t want to sell.

“It all happened right after that,” Martinez continued, referring to Shakira’s troubles with piqué and the tax evasion controversy. “That was God’s plan. I told her that’s her
Hometown.

“She is a very private person. She must be sad, but you will never see her sad in public. She is very calm. She is a fighter. She moves on and goes to the next chapter.

“I feel bad about what happened to her with her partner, but that’s life,” Martinez added. “In Miami, she can get on with her life.
